Ask a Pol asks:

We’re hearing lots of reports of ICE agents wearing masks, hiding their badges and not identifying themselves while on deportation roundups. Don’t American citizens deserve the right to know who’s knocking on their door?

Key Tuberville:

“No,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville exclusively told Ask a Pol.

No?

“No,” Tuberville continued. “Not when they’re looking for illegals that’s killing people.”

Below find a rough transcript of Ask a Pol’s exclusive interview with Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), slightly edited for clarity.

TRANSCRIPT: Sen. Tommy Tuberville (6-5-2025)

Scene: Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo runs into Sen. Tommy Tuberville as he’s walking through the basement of the US Capitol on his way to vote on the Senate floor.

Tommy Tuberville: “Sup?”

Matt Laslo: “Do you have any worries about ICE agents…?”

TT: “ICE agents?”

ML: “…wearing masks when they’re on raids?”

TT: “No. Let me wash my hands.”

ML: “Yeah.”

While waiting in the poorly lit hall with Tuberville’s aides, Laslo stops Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).

ML: “Hey Senator — Senator Baldwin.”

Tammy Baldwin: “Hi.”

ML: “I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet?”

TB: “I have not.”

Laslo hand delivers a copy of Washingtonian Magazine’s June, 50th anniversary of PRIDE issue to Senator Baldwin.

ML: “There you are.”

TB: “Oh my goodness look at that!”

The issue features a portrait of the senator next to original profile pictures of other LGBTQ trailblazers, Reps. Sharice Davids (D-KS), Ritchie Torres (D-NY), (fmr.) Barney Frank (D-MA) and (fmr.) DC Council member David Catania (Republican-turned-Independent). Each portrait is accompanied by a compact bio written by Laslo.

ML: “Here you go.”

Laslo hands the senator a thank you note.

ML: “Thank you so much for your time.”

Tuberville exits the restroom.

TT: “...I’m for ICE agents wearing anything they want to stay….”

ML: “Yeah?”

TT: “….to protect themselves.”

ML: “But now, like, don’t American citizens kinda deserve the right to know who’s knocking on their door and stuff?”

TT: “No.”

ML: “No?”

TT: “No. Not when they’re looking for illegals that’s killing people.”

ML: “Yeah?”

Tuberville laughs.

TT: “Thank you.”

ML: “There you go.”

Tuberville turns and walks towards a bank of Senators Only elevators.

ML: “Thank you, sir.”
