Who?
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) — Member, AOC’s Squad
LISTEN: Laslo & Tlaib
Ask a Pol asks:
What do you make of how ICE — Immigration and Customs Enforcement — and the Department of Homeland Security — DHS — are using all these new technologies in new ways on migrants that they aren't on American citizens?
Key Tlaib:
“This is not their first attempt and from what I understand, they've been collecting DNA without any public knowledge,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib exclusively told Ask a Pol. “It absolutely should be worrisome and I think it's important for people to understand our immigrant neighbors, these are human beings. ”

Caught our ear:
“They're not experiments for the tech world, and all these folks want to profit off of the federal government enabling all those kind of things of the private sector to use these human beings as some sort of experiment,“ Tlaib told us.

TRANSCRIPT: Rashia Tlaib (7-23-2025)
SCENE: Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s making her way through a crowded US Capitol when Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo catches up with her…
Matt Laslo: “Hey! How are you ma'am?”
Rashida Tlaib: “Good, how are you?”
ML: “Not bad. I was curious, doing a story on ICE and the facial recognition stuff they're using on the DNA.”
RT: “Oh yeah. Yeah.”

ML: “What do you make of how they're using all these new technologies in new ways that they aren't on American citizens?”
RT: “This is not their first attempt and from what I understand, they've been collecting DNA without any public knowledge, but this…”
ML: "How worrisome is that?”
RT: “It absolutely should be worrisome, and I think it's important for people to understand our immigrant neighbors, these are human beings.”
ML: “Yeah.”

RT: “They're not experiments for the tech world, and all these folks want to profit off of the federal government enabling all those kind of things of the private sector to use these human beings as some sort of experiment. They're not experiments, and they're our loved ones. But also they always start with immigrants and then it will be us.”
ML: “You think there’s guaranteed to be creep?”
RT: “100% — just know, they always start there. They always start with those that are incarcerated, those that are in systems or are in custody of the government, and we can't allow it. If we allow human rights violations for immigrants, it will trickle down to many other people. So I think it's really important to understand.”
ML: “Yeah — right?”
RT: “It's all profit-driven, and it's really shameful.”
