SCENE: As one of the underground US Senate trams is about to depart from the Senate Russell Office Building to the Capitol, Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo moves from a large, if empty, tram car so Sen. Ted Cruz and his three aides can sit together.
Once the tram pulls up to the Capitol, Laslo waits to see which side Cruz is going to exit on. Once the Senator exits, Laslo follows his lead and exits the same side before greeting the Senator…
Ted Cruz: “Hey.”
Matt Laslo: “Hey senator, curious your thoughts on a Jasmine Crockett Senate run?”
TC: “The polling I’ve seen shows her leading the Democrat primary.”
ML: “Yeah?”
Cruz smirks.
ML: “You look like you’d welcome that?”
Laslo laughs.
TC: “I — listen, I think, sadly, today’s Democrat Party has no shortage on crazy.”
